Inclusive Meetings and Conferences

Feb 26 – 28, 2019, was the 36th Annual Conference and Tradeshow for Hospitality Newfoundland and Labrador.  Through TQA’s Access Advisor program, we were pleased to provide some guidance towards making this year’s Conference more inclusive for those with hearing and sight disabilities.  Simple things like working with the AV company to ensure microphones were available, visual presentations with appropriate font size and colour contrast, handouts available in larger font, as well as hearing assistive devices available for those who may have trouble hearing, were all part of the inclusive plan.

The hearing assistive technology that was used was a part of the Canadian Hard of Hearing Association’s hearing technology lending program. These devices ensure that all participants can participate in the conversation, and important to note, there is no charge to borrow these devices!

Donna found the hearing devices very helpful during panel discussions at the HNL Conference.

Hearing all of the important dialogue in a room with some 250+ other participants can be challenging for some.  Often times with panel discussions, people who lip read may miss out on parts of the conversation. With this technology, you are connected directly with the speaker(s) and can adjust the volume as needed to suit your needs.
