In 2014, the Board of Directors of Canada Select Newfoundland and Labrador officially changed the name and bylaws of the organization to Tourism Quality Assurance of Newfoundland and Labrador (TQA) and, in doing so, adopted a broader mandate so that it can assume a more diverse role in quality assurance for the tourism industry in the province. Traditionally responsible for the implementation of the Canada Select/Camping Select rating program, the organization has evolved its governance and management structure so that it can adopt and implement other
quality assurance programs that reflect the goals and priorities of the provincial tourism industry as defined by the partners of Newfoundland and Labrador Tourism Board and Uncommon Potential: A Vision for Newfoundland and Labrador Tourism.
In order to provide a more relevant and effective role in driving quality assurance priorities, TQA’s mandate has become:
- To rate/inspect/validate participating tourism services and attractions within the province of Newfoundland and Labrador to determine if they meet minimum criteria for quality assurance as established in the quality assurance programs adopted by the corporation; including but not limited to Canada/Camping Select;
- To support participating tourism services and attractions to attain minimum quality standards and raise the level of quality in their establishments; and
- To provide the travelling public with a consistent, efficient and effective rating/inspection/validation process that ensures that Newfoundland and Labrador tourism services and attractions meet minimum quality standards.
TQA is committed to the continued success of Camping Select and Canada Select, which has made a substantial impact on elevating the quality of accommodations in the province. Canada Select remains a relevant and valuable program that will continue to hold a place of prominence as TQA’s flagship customer assurance offering. Through the introduction of the Access Advisor program, TQA continues to demonstrate its commitment to expanding its quality assurance programming to further meet the needs of travellers in Newfoundland and Labrador. TQA will continue to research and implement programs that are relevant and contribute to the overall goals of the organization.
